Freiburg Christmas Market

More than 120 stalls between Rathausplatz, Franziskanerstraße and the Kartoffelmarkt - one of the most atmospheric Christmas markets in southwest Germany.

The Freiburg Christmas Market is among the loveliest in Baden-Württemberg: roughly 120 to 130 stalls spread across Rathausplatz, Franziskanerstraße, Turmstraße and the Kartoffelmarkt. Crafts, mulled wine, regional specialties and the historic Old Town setting draw visitors from all over southern Germany and from neighboring France and Switzerland, from late November until just before Christmas. (Dates vary slightly by year - check the official dates before traveling.)

Getting there: from the Wiehre you reach Rathausplatz on tram line 2 in about ten minutes ("Bertoldsbrunnen" or "Stadttheater" stops). On Advent weekends the city center tends to be crowded - public transit and park-and-ride at the edge of town are the most relaxed way to arrive. Anyone coming from the surrounding area travels cheaply with the RegioKarte. Opening hours are usually daily from afternoon to evening; check specific stall openings seasonally.
