Church
Anna Chapel (St. Cyriak and Perpetua)
A late-Baroque little church of 1755 on Annaplatz square - the last trace of the medieval village of Adelhausen.
The "Annakirchle" on Annaplatz square is officially the chapel of St. Cyriak and Perpetua and is considered the historical anchor of the Mittelwiehre. The present building was erected between 1753 and 1755 to plans by the Freiburg master builder Johann Baptist Häring, with construction carried out by Joseph Schauberger. The foundation stone was laid on 27 August 1753, and consecration followed on 30 March 1755. Its predecessor was the medieval parish church of the village of Adelhausen, torn down from 1678 during Vauban's fortress construction. By rebuilding on the old site, the parish reconnected with a place that had previously held a parish church and cemetery; the cemetery remained in use until 1813.
The late-Baroque hall church has three window bays, an axial tower and a recessed choir with three sides of an octagon. Inside, Rococo stucco work by Franz Anton Vogel and a high altar dating from around 1700 shape the space; the altar originally came from a destroyed castle chapel. Side altars carry figures of St. Anthony and a Madonna. Since 1981 St. Cyriak and Perpetua has again been an independent parish and today belongs to the Freiburg Wiehre-Günterstal pastoral unit.
Annaplatz lies about five minutes' walk north of Wiehre station and is reachable via tram lines 4 and 5; the nearest stops are "Maria-Hilf-Kirche" and "Johanneskirche." Check current service times with the parish before visiting.
