About Wiehre Online

An editorial neighborhood guide to Freiburg's Wiehre - its history, attractions, food and drink, districts and what defines the neighborhood today.

What we're about

The Wiehre is one of Freiburg's most characterful quarters - grown from the medieval village of Adelhausen, incorporated in 1826 and shaped by the Wilhelmine building boom of the late 19th century. It divides into four city districts: Oberwiehre, Mittelwiehre, Unterwiehre-Nord and Unterwiehre-Süd. Across 24,640 residents runs a dense fabric of historic buildings, residents' associations, cafés, small shops and long-established neighborhood life. Wiehre Online gathers what makes this district - linkable, searchable and sourced.

How we work

  • Sources, not clichés. History and background articles link to their evidence (Wikipedia, the City of Freiburg, residents' associations, official operator sites). What we cannot reliably verify, we leave out.
  • Verified addresses. For restaurants, cafés and attractions we list only places that demonstrably exist - no invented insider tips. Closed or relocated venues are marked accordingly.
  • Local geography. We make sure "in the Wiehre" really is in the Wiehre. Neighboring places (the Waldsee, Old Town and Vauban districts) are clearly labeled as such.
  • Timeliness note. Opening hours, prices and fares change. We recommend a quick look at the relevant provider's website before every visit.

Who runs the portal

Wiehre Online is operated by Webmagics Ltd., based in Paphos, Zypern. The full provider identification is in the imprint. Notes on errors, additional sources, corrections or event tips from the neighborhood are very welcome - just write to kontakt@wiehre-online.de.

How the portal is funded

Wiehre Online is funded mainly through affiliate partnerships - if you book a hotel via the embedded Stay22 map (routed to Booking.com), a tour via GetYourGuide or make a purchase through one of the AWIN partner links, we receive a commission at no extra cost to you. Such recommendations are marked as "advertising" or "partner offers." More on this in the privacy notice.
