Freiburg Carnival - Rose Monday Parade

The highlight of Freiburg's carnival is the big jesters' parade through the city centre on Rose Monday, organised by the Breisgauer Narrenzunft.

Freiburg's carnival opens on „Schmutziger Dunschtig“ with the storming of the town hall. „Stroßefasnet“ follows in the pedestrian zone on the Saturday and Sunday, before the big jesters' parade sets off through the city centre at 14:11 on Rose Monday. Several thousand costumed participants and more than 100 guilds, Guggenmusik bands and folklore groups are expected. The season closes with the „Kehraus“ on Shrove Tuesday. The parade takes place in the city centre, not in the Wiehre - from the district you can reach it by tram or on foot across the Dreisam bridges, though road closures and diversions are to be expected on parade days.
